Thogarihunkal Estate is located in Chikmagalur on the Baba Budangiri hills, also known as the birthplace of Indian coffee. The estate is managed by the Gowda brothers, Mallanna and Chenna Basave, whose family has been in the coffee business since 1857.
Situated 1350m above sea level, the estate has separate sections for Arabica and Robusta coffee, each with its own distinct varieties. The Arabica varieties grown on the estate include Chandragiri, Selection 795, and micro-lots of Selections 5 and 7.
In addition to producing top-quality coffee, Thogarihunkal is committed to its workers' well-being. The staff are provided housing, schooling for their children, and on-site healthcare facilities. The estate also focuses on water treatment and minimizes pesticide use.
The estate uses modern processing facilities, such as two pulping units, multiple fermentation tanks, spacious drying yards, and raised beds, to turn the cherries into green coffee.
